DEEP PURPLE

A couple of dudes that discovered Deep Purple in the 1980s has started an unofficial podcast. It is called the Deep Purple Podcast. There are seven episodes to listen to as of today and they are putting them out there fast. This has the potential to grow into something good. So check it out now and spread the word.

BABYMETAL

Babymetal are to livestream the July 7 Legend M (Nagoya) show in 40 cities across Japan. It will take place in cinemas. Babymetal has done this sort of thing several times before. They can sell merchandise like crazy all over the place. The Japanese arena tour sold out in days.

GENERATION AXE

If you like howling guitars then you have one hell of an album coming up. The project is called Generation Axe and a live album called “The Guitars That Destroyed The World: Live In China” will be released on June 28. On it you will find Steve Vai, Yngwie Malmsteen, Zakk Wylde, Nuno Bettencourt and Tosin Abasi. There is a video (audio) of Deep Purple´s “Highway Star” on YouTube. I find it interesting that it was recorded in China.

ROBERT PLANT

Robert Plant has launched his own podcast. It is called Digging Deep – The Robert Plant Podcast. The first episode was added to YouTube on June 2 and it has been viewed over 52,000 times as of now. I like the fact that somebody like him embraces this new trend. I expect others to follow in his tracks now.

BABYMETAL

Looks like the BBC will broadcast the Babymetal show at the Glastonbury Festival on June 30. This is for the UK only but this will be all over the Internet within hours for sure. At least that should be expected, judging by earlier shows elsewhere.

DEEP PURPLE

Deep Purple´s label earMusic is to release a Limited Edition Series of live shows that has been recorded over the last 20 years (Steve Morse era), starting with a concert that was captured in Newcastle (Australia) back in 2001. 20,000 copies. The LP will be a three Vinyl affair. Release date is July 5. More will follow.

The (sold out) Glastonbury Festival in the UK has gone public with the 2019 bill, and Babymetal is to perform at the Other Stage (said to be the best of the lot) on Sunday June 30. The amazing thing is that Babymetal are also performing a (second) night at the Yokohama Arena back home on June 29, so they will actually be resting on a flight on their way to the UK. Glastonbury Festival is a big deal. UK media, not least the BBC, will be all over it. In fact, when the BBC revealed the bill today, they showed a picture of Su-metal and Moametal to go with the story, taken at the Rob Halford collaboration at the APMAs in 2016. For UK fans, this is a shocker. No tickets available unless you pay up hard earned cash to shady figures. For Babymetal, it will put them in front of a huge audience that have never seen them before. The media exposure alone will be terrific. Of course they will play London on July 2 before heading back to Japan for more arena shows.

Well, they are obviously ready to work hard for top exposure. Got to love that.

Added a third Sakura Gakuin Photo Book to the old collection through eBay recently, and like the others it was published when the gals in Babymetal was still part of this School Project. In other words, you get a lot of good stuff from the formative years of what is now a legendary offshoot from Sakura Gakuin. Seen on the cover of this book we have Ayaka Miyoshi, Ayami Mutou and Airi Matsui, all of whom has gone on to fine careers in the Japanese entertainment industry. Looks like all three has signed this book too, which makes it a pretty wonderful collectors item right there. I did get Suzuka Nakamoto´s autograph in the book that she had the cover of (that would be Su-metal, the singer in Babymetal), so having four autographs from the early days of this entity is not bad. Also, Ayami Mutou was in the Karen Girl´s in 2008-2010 with Suzuka, whom was the youngest of them in that outfit. The quality of these photo books is top notch, they are not cheap but they are cool. I guess this is what you could call a guilty pleasure?

BABYMETAL

Congratulations to Babymetal for reaching 50,000,000 YouTube hits with “Karate” today. It is the third most popular video, second only to “Gimme Chocolate!!” (102,000,000) and “Megitsune” (57,000,000). They are sitting on a very solid platform, but can they repeat the early hype in the years ahead?

RAINBOW

Ritchie Blackmore has dusted off an old Blackmore´s Night tune called “The Storm” and re-recorded it as a digital Rainbow Single. It will go out on May 17.

WHITESNAKE

The new Whitesnake album stormed the Japanese charts and reached a very respectable #1 position on the day of entry. This is not a Hard Rock chart or anything like that, it really was the best selling album by any artist in the country. Also, there is another issue of Sweden Rock Magazine coming out, the second in a row with David Coverdale on the cover. Maybe the time has come to bow out in style? People are very supportive and it is always great to leave when things are looking good. David will be 68 on September 22.

BABYMETAL

Babymetal dropped the news today that there will be another exclusive Fan Club (The One) release titled “Metal Resistance Episode VII – The Chosen Seven”. You get two DVDs with Download 2018 and Dark Night Carnival 2018 plus a CD with a previously unreleased song. It will ship at the end of June. Fair enough, but I would like to see more official (easy to grab) product on the general market now.

KAL-EL

Norwegian doomsters (think early Sabbath) Kal-El will re-release the 2015 album “Ecosphere” on CD and Vinyl on May 17. Big day too with Vinyls coming out from PAL (see earlier post) and Heavy Load as well.

QUEEN

If you skip your vacation this year you can buy the entire Queen catalogue (18 albums) in a neat box on May 31. It is titled “Complete Studio Albums”. All coloured Vinyls.

Deep Purple is to play 33 shows in the US between September 3 and October 19. So we have another trek of The Long Goodbye Tour over there (the stint they did with Judas Priest a while ago was a successful package). As things stand, we are looking at another studio album as well. Well, they have always been a working band. Babymetal has announced the longest US Tour so far with 20 gigs between September 4 and October 16. My guess is that we will see the new album as well around that time, and that they will work on promoting this for at least two years as they see fit. Swedish rockers Avatar, a very theatrical outfit, is to open for Babymetal.

With the American economy booming, things may be looking up over there if you are fairly well known.
