The Orlando show tonight (see previous post) is on. Avatar and Babymetal will perform as planned. Come to think of it, both Swedes and Japanese folks have strong work ethics. Plenty of bands would have cancelled for sure, but not these acts. Cred.

Good news for fans of Jon Lord. A remastered version of his 1976 solo album “Sarabande” is set to be released on September 27 (CD/Vinyl). The cover is updated too, but with respect for the original. Looks good. “Gemini Suite” and “Windows” will also be released on Vinyl on the same day.

Hurricane Dorian might spell trouble for Babymetal. In a sense it already is, and the big question now is weather or not Babymetal can still open up their US Tour in Orlando on September 4 as planned. No official word yet from the Babymetal camp but then they are quite used to rough conditions in Japan. I mean they just braved Typhoon Krosa a couple of weeks ago in Osaka and they have done it before. But if Dorian closes down airports etc, it is over. Johannes Eckerström, singer of Swedish openers Avatar, tweeted this a few hours ago: “To every one asking and wondering. We are still staring at weather maps and following things waiting to decide what to do. Step one is to make it to the states safely, which might mean rerouting. After that we will follow suit with Babymetal. Sit right everybody, AND STAY SAFE!”. If there is any chance at all to do the Orlando show safely, Babymetal will be there.

Just discovered an interesting Japanese dance unit called Elevenplay. They perform with drones and it is quite spectacular (check them out). They are related to Babymetal in a small way since this project is the brainchild of their choreographer Mikiko Mizuno.

Ex-Whitesnake guitarist Bernie Marsden will have a book out in November called “Where´s My Guitar?”. Great cover too.

I have always enjoyed compilation albums (LPs, CDs) and I certainly own enough of them. This goes back to the 1970s for me and I am sure many of you can see where I am coming from here. So finding something enjoyable like this, even now, feels good. And what we have here is a Sakura Gakuin Compilation from 2014, basically covering the most popular stuff from 2010 and onwards, the period when a little project called Babymetal was being groomed (and shot through the roof). They were just one unit that came out of Sakura Gakuin and you have others here like Twinklestars, Sleepiece and Scoopers. Little projects that worked on music and dance routines and got to record little pop songs. It is all quite happy stuff and it has a very positive vibe. This CD is still for sale in Japan and I assume many fans of Babymetal has picked it up to get some early history. It also sports a rather nice cover and a packed booklet.

A nice reminder of how incredible this journey has been for Babymetal.

Babymetal shocker

Wow! Babymetal just added a new video on YouTube for the song “Elevator Girl” (english lyrics!). It is to promote the upcoming US Tour that kicks off on September 4 in Orlando. The last video for the song “Pa Pa Ya!!” was uploaded on July 1 and it is now closing in on 7,000,000 views. Add another 3,800,000 hits for the BBC version from Glastonbury and it looks pretty good. They are creating quite a buzz.

Babymetal just performed at the Summer Sonic Festival in Osaka. Typhoon Krosa caused trouble with the Mountain Stage (that they performed on) and some artists were cancelled earlier in the day, but Babymetal could get up and do their thing with only a slight delay. Tomorrows show in Tokyo will be streamed on YouTube, so that will make waves.

The first Blue Öyster Cult album (from 1972) is reissued in blue Vinyl today.

Elvis has now been dead as long as he lived his life. Kind of sad to think about it.

(Thank you Kalle for the Elvis note)

Babymetal has revealed the details (tracklist etc) of the third album “Metal Galaxy” today, and it turns out to be pretty exciting stuff. The album is set to be released in many different formats and versions and I have never in my life seen a bigger launch than this. I will probably end up paying for a dozen versions of this, which is very very exciting. As for the tracklist, here is the information.

1. “Future Metal”. One has to wonder what they have come up with here.

2. “Da Da Dance” (featuring Tak Matsumoto). Tak is big in Japan, a guitarist, songwriter, producer. Picked up the guitar when he heard Ritchie Blackmore play “Smoke On The Water” on “Made In Japan”.

3. “Elevator Girl”. This song has been performed live for some time now and is a happy mix of brutal riffing and J-Pop.

4. “Shanti Shanti Shanti”. This is the Bollywood sounding track that they have performed lately. This could be a huge hit.

5. “Oh! Majinai” (featuring Joakim Brodén from Sabaton). I knew something could be going on here when Sabaton opened for Babymetal in Japan last year. I would expect this to be a Power Metal song, but it would be pretty interesting if they took another route.

6. “Brand New Day” (featuring Tim Henson and Scott LePage). Here we have a collaboration with a couple of guys from Dallas based band Polyphia.

7. “Night Night Burn!”. Interesting title.

8. “In The Name Of”. Instrumental. They opened their shows in 2018 with this track.

9. “Distortion” (featuring Alissa White-Gluz from Arch Enemy). Another high profile guest. This song has a video and I assume this might be an updated version. Or, we have listened to Alissa and not figured it out. We shall see.

10. “Pa Pa Ya!!” (featuring F.Hero). This song is a hit right now and it features a Thai rapper.

11. “Kagerou”. This song was performed last year and was known as “Taboo” at the time.

12. “Starlight”. There is a video for this song. Very catchy tune.

13. “Shine”. Hopefully, this is the epic ballad that they debuted onstage in Japan not long ago.

14. “Arkadia”. This is a fast Heavy Metal song, it was debuted live not long ago in Japan.

There are two more songs reported, no information on these right now but there will be several editions of this album. Also DVDs to go with live stuff on some versions. The EMP store in Europe has a few versions with Babymetal lipstick as a bonus.

The fact that we have high profile personalities from Sabaton and Arch Enemy is a huge bonus, a bold step and again they are adding credibility in a world that is still slightly hostile. I can see the editors of certain Metal publications (you know who you are, bastards!) go nuts over this. Now they have to pay attention.

Babymetal can not fail now. This is the album that will cement their career. A few more hits and they are up there where they belong all over the world.

Clockenflap thunder

I had to laugh when I saw the name of this Festival in Hong Kong, but it is real. And Babymetal will perform at the Clockenflap Festival on December 23. Dates are slowly being announced and by the looks of it they are going to do more shows than ever in 2019-2020. Kerrang Magazine in the UK is giving them their full support which is nice to see. They have been there for Babymetal since the 2014 breakthrough over there. The latest single “Pa Pa Ya!!” has been good for Babymetal, the video passed 6,000,000 hits recently and it is moving quite fast. I think any magazine editor that knows their business should be able to see that the third Babymetal album is going to be a hit. Still, Babymetal is seen as a controversial entity in some quarters. All the more impressive then that they are doing so well.
