Doris Day is gone

Posted: May 13, 2019 in General, TV & Movies

Sad to hear that Doris Day has passed away. I have always had a soft spot for her classic comedies, and I have a few in the old collection. I will look to see if a few more pops up now. It is not like you will ever see that stuff on TV these days.

Class act.

BABYMETAL

Babymetal dropped the news today that there will be another exclusive Fan Club (The One) release titled “Metal Resistance Episode VII – The Chosen Seven”. You get two DVDs with Download 2018 and Dark Night Carnival 2018 plus a CD with a previously unreleased song. It will ship at the end of June. Fair enough, but I would like to see more official (easy to grab) product on the general market now.

KAL-EL

Norwegian doomsters (think early Sabbath) Kal-El will re-release the 2015 album “Ecosphere” on CD and Vinyl on May 17. Big day too with Vinyls coming out from PAL (see earlier post) and Heavy Load as well.

QUEEN

If you skip your vacation this year you can buy the entire Queen catalogue (18 albums) in a neat box on May 31. It is titled “Complete Studio Albums”. All coloured Vinyls.

Added this notebook to the old collection, a Japanese print from Toshiba EMI Music, covering the “Come Taste The Band” and “24 Carat Purple” albums (the latter a well beloved compilation from 1975). Lyrics are included. Nice cover shot by photographer Kenji Miura from the Japanese tour in December 1975. Not sure what year this was published but it certainly looks good. Had no idea that this existed until quite recently (I like eBay due to Babymetal, and once you are browsing…).

Deep Purple is to play 33 shows in the US between September 3 and October 19. So we have another trek of The Long Goodbye Tour over there (the stint they did with Judas Priest a while ago was a successful package). As things stand, we are looking at another studio album as well. Well, they have always been a working band. Babymetal has announced the longest US Tour so far with 20 gigs between September 4 and October 16. My guess is that we will see the new album as well around that time, and that they will work on promoting this for at least two years as they see fit. Swedish rockers Avatar, a very theatrical outfit, is to open for Babymetal.

With the American economy booming, things may be looking up over there if you are fairly well known.

Checked out a nearby tourist attraction from where I live (here in Stugun, Jämtland County) today in good company. I have a rather impressive mountain rising very close my property (I practically live on a spot close to this peak) but I have still to explore this general area way more. Takes about 10-12 minutes to get up there through the forest (no road) upwards the mountain side. With the new snow making certain steep bits a bit slippery I decided to stop at this position and not risk the last climb that is a bit on the heavy side. Anyway, I have heard that enthusiasts climb these rocks in this area and they have made it a good place to visit. There are nine different locations to climb according to tourist informatioon, so this is just one such place. I have to say that this nearby part of the mountain looks great, nature has carved out a section of the wall about half way up and you have a few trees growing there. Amazing how trees can find a way to grow just about anywhere.

I could hear voices in the vicinity so somebody was up there. I think the right thing to do is to get a map so that I can get a real grip of this mountain. It was interesting to get a first glimpse, had I been a kid I would have explored this mountain every day (at least that is how it was when I grew up). These days I will settle for a nice walk or two that will not be too dangerous.

Woke up to this view this morning. We have had rain, snow and hail pouring down in the last few days. The flowers have taken a real beating and I wonder if they can survive this? I guess I will learn a lot from this backlash. The weather will continue to be lousy for at least another five days. Not a good start for the summer season but there you go.

Got these magazines on import from Japan today. BURRN! Magazine (issue 5 2019) and PMC Magazine (Volume 13) with David Coverdale and Babymetal on the covers. 24 pages (plus cover) of Whitesnake in BURRN! and 42 pages (plus cover) of Babymetal in PMC. Very high quality titles, I have collected some BURRN! issues for decades (usually when they cover the Deep Purple family, which is quite common), and PMC often cover Babymetal so that is a given too. The title of this post comes from a track on the upcoming Whitesnake album. The countdown is on.

Bought a fire extinguisher for my new place a few weeks ago. Got this promotional thing – The Thirst Extinguisher – from the store (Norrlands Brand in Östersund, Jämtland County) and the text reads…

LIFT UP THE CORK

BRING THE BOTTLE TO YOUR MOUTH

BEND YOUR HEAD BACKWARDS AND PUT OUT THE FIRE WITH CARE

I like this crazy humour, hell I have blogged about it now!
